Ingredients

This easy pineapple mocktail recipe is good anytime with only five ingredients (and lots of ice)!

Ingredients to make a virgon painkiller tiki drink.
Ingredient quantities can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Orange Juice - Freshly-squeezed, if you can. Not from concentrate, if you can't.
  • Unsweetened Coconut Cream - Make sure you are using coconut cream and NOT "cream of coconut", which is heavily sweetened. For a slightly lighter drink, you can also use the thick solidified portion of a can of coconut milk.
  • Lime Juice - Lime juice is not an ingredient of a traditional pain killer. For the non-alcoholic version, we found that fresh lime juice added an extra touch of acidity that helped to balance this drink and make it less cloying.
  • Nutmeg - A touch of freshly grated nutmeg finishes this drink with a classic flavor. Don't skip it!

Fun Fact: Pineapple juice makes this drink rich and frothy after shaking. It provides a creamy mouthfeel and the perfect platform for a dash of grated nutmeg!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make a painkiller without rum?

Absolutely! We have adjusted the quantities in this recipe to create a perfectly balanced painkiller without rum or other alcohols.

What is the difference between a painkiller and a pina colada?

Both painkillers and pina colada cocktails are rum based drinks with pineapple and coconut. Painkillers generally use a darker rum and have the addition of orange juice and nutmeg. Pina coladas are generally sweeter and often served frozen. Both are delicious with or without alcohol!

Can I make this drink frozen?

Yes! This drink is delicious when frozen! Simply add all of the ingredients into a high speed blender with about 1 - 2 Cups of ice. Blend until creamy and smooth.

Can I make this recipe with coconut milk or water?

Yes and no. This recipe can be made with the thick solidified portion of a can of coconut milk. We do not recommend making this recipe with coconut water.
